This is Absolutely a Meaningless Call
Posted by xanthis on December 15, 2007

I have been hearing from last few weeks that the amount which we are going to spend for coming Eid-ul-Azha cattles, should be paid to raise the Sidr Rehabilitation fund. This has not been only a stupid call from some stupid fanatic cults of our country, this Friday I have found the Khwatib of the national mosque (Baitul Mukarram) to encourage people to do so. Don’t you think that this is a very meaningless publicity? When we can call for a cost replacement? Only when the cost is for something meaningless. But how can we categorize Eid-ul-Azha an issue where we can give up??? Is it a worthless wastage of money? Ain’t there other worthless issues in our country where thousands & millions of taka is spent? This is quite unacceptable that Dhaka Club will arrange International Sport Carnival with over Tk.3 million expenditure at the full support & assistance of the government; on the other hand Mufti Muhammad Nooruddin, honorable Imam of Baitul Mukarram will encourage this kind of meaningless deeds.
I don’t understand that why all liabilities are thrown upon the middle class of the nation? Taxes, price hike etc. already are squeezing all relaxation off them, now this is the new thing that, the Qurbani, for which they keep saving money all along the year should be given to Sidr Rehabilitation Fund. Is Qurbani a worthless expense? Is this is a wastage of money? If it is not, then why should people compromise that? Qurbani is a responsibility for all solvent Muslims who can afford it. It is nothing worthless like Sports Carnival at Dhaka Club or Golf Tournament at Kurmitola Golf Club. Some sensitive things like these should be made very clear to people, instead of contributing in stupid publicities. Baitul Mukarram Imam Mufti Nooruddin probably is now thinking that what he has done has been a very great thing that he has been able to throw the fanaticism off himself as he called for the giving up Qurbanis to raise Sidr funds. But he doesn’t know or he ain’t thinking that to what kind of confusion he has led people today.

A movement, which calls people to put their religious terms off themselves, should never be appreciated. This is not a good sign for our society. This kind of movements should be strongly protested by us. Because Eid-ul-Azha is not only a festival to be enjoyed with fashion designers’ sound market & new cut style of Punjabi-pajama, it’s a religious engagement of festivity which gets its completion when the Qurbani is done in proper ways. Those who cannot afford for Qurbani, will get their rightful share from those who can afford. Instead of Qurbani, the Eid-ul-Azha is nothing and asking to give up Qurbani is equivalent to discouraging people from performing Eid-ul-Azha. This is completely unacceptable. Nobody has right to do so. Nobody has right to ask a Muslim to do so. Nobody has right to ask a Hindu to give up all preparations of Durga Pooja. Nobody has the right to ask a Christian to keep away of Christmas. Any such call is a clear threat to the society, is the sign of a worse thing to come.
